John Smelter has specialized in investment real estate brokerage for 35 years, with a focus on healthcare real estate for the past 30 years. Formerly with Marcus & Millichap as a Senior Director of the Healthcare Real Estate Group, John consistentantly ranked in the top 1% to 10% of the 1,600 agents nationally and was the Number One Healthcare Real Estate Agent 95% of his tenure with the firm. John has had the longest tenure of any agent, regardless of firm affiliation, in investment sales in the healthcare real estate industry.

He has been the No.1 medical office agent in the Western 11 states over 20 years since 1990 with a market share exceeding 25 percent in California. Given his success, John elected to start the Smelter Healthcare Real Estate Group to better serve his private and institutional clients. John is considered to be one of the top medical office agents nationally with listings and closings in 21 states including: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. Over the course of his career, John has closed in excess of $2 billion in sales volume. His clients include major hospital systems, healthcare REITs, medical office developers, regional syndicators and private investors. In addition to investment real estate brokerage, John’s expertise includes property evaluations, healthcare real estate debt and equity solutions and market research. John serves on the Editorial Board of Healthcare Real Estate Insights and formerly served on the BOMA Medical Office & Healthcare Conference.
